Freud was addicted to cocaine and nicotine, Jung was psychotic for several years, and Margaret Mead remained closeted throughout her lifetime. Yet, adversities notwithstanding, they all made monumental contributions that still shape our view on ourselves and the world. This book includes biographies of fifteen modern explorers of the mind who altered the course of history. All of them were wounded healers who made great discoveries while struggling with traumatic life crises and emotional problems in their personal lives. Full of unexpected twists and turns, their life stories alone are worthy of our attention. In linking their maladies with their creativity, showing the vulnerable and human side of these giants, this book makes the greats approachable and illuminates their scientific findings through narrating their life stories.

"Moyer and Crews move beyond simply presenting and explaining the ethical code. In this book, they challenge counselors-in-training to grapple with their own values and understand how ethical decision-making is influenced by the lens through which they see the world as much as it is influenced by the actual code." --Kristi Gibbs, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Applied Ethics and Decision Making in Mental Health covers professional issues and ethical decision making related to the codes of ethics of the American Counseling Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy in an easy-to-read format, connecting ethical standards to real-life scenarios. This book not only focuses on the various aspects of legal issues and codes of ethics, but also includes ethical decision making models and exploration into the philosophy behind ethical decision making. By challenging readers to understand their own morals, values, and beliefs, this in-depth guide encourages critical thinking, real world application, and classroom discussion using case illustrations, exercises, and examples of real dialogue in every chapter.

Poetic, witty, and ever so faintly surreal, Sefer delicately explores the legacy of the Holocaust for the postwar generation, a generation for whom a devastating history has grown distant, both temporally and emotionally. Much like memory itself, Sefer speaks to us obliquely, through the juxtaposition of images and vignettes rather than through the construction of a linear narrative. With its fragmentary structure and its preference for hints rather than explanations, the novel belongs to the realm of the postmodern, while it also incorporates subtle elements of magical realism.
